10/29/2011 -- Turtle Bay to Bahia Santa Maria

We left today about 0730...a little ahead of the "official" start @ 0800 but there was little or no wind and I didn't feel like turning around for a "photo op"...

The wind finally arrived at 1400 and we set the asymetrical in about 10 knots of true wind...which allows us to sail about 5 knots at deep wind angles (we could smoke on a reach, but it would be in the wrong direction!). There are only a couple of us out here sailing...almost everyone is motor sailing. Our sailing model for this rally is 5 knots and within 20 degrees of the rhumb line...outside of those parameters, we motorsail.

We fished today for the first time...I didn't have the lure in the water more than two minutes before it was struck by a 24" Mahi Mahi which I quickly filleted and we ate for dinner...yum yum!

We are definitely in the tropics now...light t-shirts and shorts on watch...at this rate it will be a two day sail...the gribs suggest that the wind is going to die tonight and stay lite for the next several days...that sucks (but, as always, it could be a hell of a lot worse!)
