Another
day in Paradise! Got into Bahia Santa Maria last night in an incredibly dark
night and celebrated with Mark Warner's Taylor Fladgate 10 year old Porto...wow!
BSM
is a roadstead open to the south with a mangrove estuary in the NE corner and
is separated from Bahia Magdelena (Mag Bay) by a long strand...like miles long.
The wind has been whipping thru all morning, but at about 85 degrees and a
water temp about the same, it feels great!
We
got up about 0630 and had coffee on deck under azure skies and glassy water
with ducks and Pelicans buzzing by. It's like living in a nature preserve...
Danny,
Jamie and I took off for the beach in the early morning. Landing the dingy
through the surf zone was cake after landing an IBS on the rocks in front of
the Del in the middle of the night.
The
beach fronts a Mangrove estuary, so if you don't want to stay on the beach, you
have to land in at the side of the estuary. So after a brief exploration, we
timed the surf and headed over to the Pangero encampment. The "encampment"
description may be a little generous...
The
encampment is protected from the surf by a deeper channel of water that flows
out of the mangroves...we anchored in the protected area between the mangrove
stream and the beach. It was about five
feet deep and calm.
Jamie
hung out with the pangeros while Danny and I took a hike up the nearby hills to
get some shots of BSM and Mag Bay...very similar to our hikes on the hills
behind Whites Landing at Catalina.
The
cruisers are trying to organize some Halloween parties for tonight. I'll be
hanging out here on the boat feeling very mellow!
